Meet "Mercy" - the fully restored nine seater 1959 Split Window Microbus Kombi.

He started his life in 1959 coming from Germany to Australia, and was purchased by the Sisters of Mercy Convent at Castlemaine on 17 August 1959 (I still have all of the original log books).
Hence his name & when I looked at him for the first time all I could do was have pity & Mercy on him.
Later in the 1970's he was purchased again in Victoria (we still have that registration label).
We purchased him 4 years ago as a complete wreck. He then spent 2 of those years as a garden ornament in our back yard before the time was right to start restoration.
Many dollars, time & tears were spent making "Mercy" into the Kombi you see today.

In February 2010, he won Best Original Kombi at the VW Show "Dubs by the Pie".
He also featured in a Red Bull photoshoot which had all of the Red Bull sponsored surfers given a custom Mark Richards surfboard. Included were Mick Fanning, Jordy Smith and Sofia Mulanovich.

In January 2009 he won 2 trophies at Ballina Street Machine Show in NSW, and was recently used to film a TV ad for the television show "Creek to Coast" to advertise the Malfunction Longboard Surf Festival '09 at Kingscliff.
